GARBHA GRAHAM

The main Sanctum Sanctorum other wise called "Garbagraha" in Sanskrit and "Karuvarai" in Tamil contains only the Lingam, the symbol of Lord " Siva". No other anthropomorphic idol is found there. Lingam is the symbol of the Form and Formless aspect of Devine, the highest concept of transcedental and imminent God. The Lingam will be decorated with flowers and Vilva leaves, Rudraksha garland and Vibudhi. On special occassions, the Peetam (Base) will be covered with Silver plate (kavacham) and the Lingam will be covered with Silver Hood. The very important point to be noted is that 'Lingam' is not a phallic symbol as ignorantly assumed by some people. But only the symbol of form and formless aspect of Devine Existence.
